Passed away on January 23, 2026 at the age of 75
2014 Team Member 1977 Elmvale Merchants Fastball Championship Team
2024 Builder Springwater Sports Heritage
The Springwater Sports Heritage Board and our entire alumni community mourn the passing of a true local legend, Paul Marley. A Phelpston native through and through, Paul’s life was a masterclass in community service, athletic excellence, and visionary leadership.
Paul was a double inductee in our Hall of Fame. We first recognized Paul in 2014 as a vital member of the 1977 Elmvale Merchants Fastball Team (the only Elmvale men's team to ever capture an Ontario Amateur Softball Championship). In 2024, we had the distinct honour of inducting him as a Builder, acknowledging a lifetime of contribution that stretched far beyond the playing field.
While his athletic resume was storied, including OMHA championships and a deep love for the Elmvale Curling Club, Paul’s legacy as a "Builder" is perhaps best defined by his instrumental role in founding the Barrie Baycats. In 2001, when the dream of an Intercounty Baseball League team in our region nearly faltered, Paul stepped up. He was a driving force behind the construction of the stadium in Midhurst and served as Vice President for over two decades, helping guide the team to seven IBL championships.
Known for his calm, steady presence and a habit of working quietly behind the scenes, Paul never sought the spotlight. However, the spotlight found him through the gratitude of the many athletes, coaches, and community members he supported through his business, Sexton’s Mechanical, and his long-time involvement with the Rotary Club.
Paul was a doer, a sponsor, and a friend to all who shared his passion for the game. His presence at the ballpark and in our community will be profoundly missed, but his impact is etched into the very infrastructure of sport in Springwater and beyond.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Marley family and the countless friends Paul made throughout his extraordinary journey.
Springwater Sports Heritage is proud and honoured to have Paul as one of its Alumni.
