1954-55 Elmvale Comets
1996 Diamond Senior Ladies
Springwater Sports Heritage mourns the passing of Marlene Tinney.
Along with the Springwater community, we have lost a true pillar of local sports and service. On the field and the ice, Marlene was a formidable competitor. Her legacy is etched in the Springwater Sports Hall of Fame twice over: first as a member of the legendary 1954-55 Elmvale Comets Women’s Softball team, and again with the 1996 Diamond Senior Ladies (the first team from the Elmvale Curling Club to capture a provincial championship).
Marlene’s passion for sports was a family affair. As a member of the well-known Turner family, she proudly joined her siblings (Lou, Dennis, and Gary) in the Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame. It is an outstanding testament to a family defined by athletic excellence, helping establish a legacy that inspires our athletes and community today, and will continue to do so into the future.
A devoted volunteer and lifelong resident of her beloved Elmvale, Marlene was the embodiment of community volunteerism and spirit. Whether she was working in the kitchen of St. John’s United Church or serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Flos Agricultural Society (for nearly half a century), she was always ready to contribute.
Whether cheering from the arena stands or competing at the curling club, Marlene’s bright light and distinctive voice will be deeply missed by all who knew her. While we mourn her loss, we celebrate a life spent in service to her neighbours, her church, and the games she loved so dearly.
Springwater Sports Heritage is honoured and proud to have Marlene in our Hall of Fame
