Laura McNabb, Builder, Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame

Few have left as enduring a mark on Springwater’s sporting and community life as Laura McNabb. After settling in Edenvale in 1954, she and her husband Allan raised six children on the family farm, nurturing a love of sport and service that flourished across generations and community.

Laura was a driving force in local softball. As chairperson of the Vespra Recreation Committee (1974–1979), she championed the creation of Doran Park, proudly throwing its first pitch in 1977. She and Allan ran the park’s refreshment booth for years, raising funds and offering cheer from behind the bleachers.

Beyond the diamond, Laura’s impact echoed throughout the community. She was honored as Minesing Citizen of the Year (1994) for her leadership in the Edenvale Women’s Institute, Midhurst Lioness Club, and United Church, where she served as secretary, council chair, Sunday School teacher, and founding member of the Evening Ladies Fellowship.

Laura’s legacy is etched in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through sport, service, and unwavering commitment, she will continue to inspire generations.
