Frank Archer Highlights


Within the Community

1962-63:

  • Frank chaired the Artificial Ice Committee that brought artificial ice to the Elmvale Arena.  A detailed account of this significant undertaking can be found in the Springwater Sports Heritage article “In The Beginning” penned by Frank to preserve the events and contributions of many that resulted in the building of the Elmvale Community Arena.

1964-78:

  • Frank organized roller skating in the early 1970's and acquired necessary liability insurance. The roller skating went on for several summers ('72-'79) providing summer activity for all ages. (see "In The Beginning" Article)
  • Elmvale Minor Hockey Association (EMHA) President (10 years). Past-President, Coach or Manager positions for several teams including Provincial Champions throughout the years until 1978.
  • Frank was the EMHA Representative with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA)
  • 1965- Frank coached the what they called then the “Jr A” level of minor hockey to a regional “Little NHL” Championship.
  • 1968-1971: Coached the Elmvale Bantam softball team for 2 summers winning the rural league championship
  • 1968-1986: Georgian Bay HCES Elementary student teams Coach.
  • In 1974-75 season Frank acted in an assistant managerial role for the Elmvale Juveniles that won the Provincial OMHA Championship.
  • 1975 George Allen recorded that Frank developed a lottery to help rebuild the arena after the devastating fire.  He had to have the $20,000 prize money in the bank before a ticket could be sold. He   managed to have the money raised through his efforts to run the lottery.
  • 1978: Received plaque from Elmvale Minor Hockey for his devotion to Elmvale Minor Hockey.

2013:

  • Frank Initiated the founding of the Springwater Sports Hall of Fame (SHHOF). He organized a committee and approached Springwater Council to have SHHoF and Springwater Sports Heritage Committees approved. He served as a member for 3 years.

Within the Community Beyond Sport

  • Frank spent 35 years with the Fair Board in various capacities until the year 2000.
  • He chaired the Friday Night Variety Show and/or Saturday Parades for 20 years.
  • A Flos Agricultural Society Honorary Director notation in 159th Fair bulletin (year 2019). EXCERPT: “HONOURARY DIRECTORS: in recognition of unselfish agricultural service to Their Community  Frank  Archer.....”.
  • 1985: Received the Elmvale Lance “Citizen of the Year” award
  • 1988: Received the Canadian Government Celebration '88 Certificate of Merit in recognition of his “Contribution to Community
