Leo Belcourt Anecdotes

Early in their careers Lou was the pitcher and Leo was the catcher. It did not take long before a role reversal served both of them and the respective positions better.

While Leo was known as an outstanding pitcher, it often overshadowed his hitting ability. He was a competent hitter, often coming through with key hits including several home runs.

In 1975 while playing against Sault Ste. Marie in the O.A.S.A. Int. finals the Sault pitcher hit Leo on his pitching elbow injuring him. The team persevered to win game one in a two out of three series.  Unable to pitch game two Lakeview lost setting up a sudden death game the following day. Pitching injured Leo struck out 14 batters leading Lakeview to victory.

In the 3rd game of the 1975 O.A.S.A. finals coach John Feltis had Leo, a left hand batter, hit right handed in order that his injured arm would not be exposed.
