Michelle Simpson-Leigh (athlete) Narrative

Michelle became the first Elmvale Skating Club competitor to successfully compete beyond the Annual Club Competition.  Her ability, desire to learn, determination, passion for excellence and numerous sacrifices translated into a successful skating career.  Her valuable and valued attributes always provided her with a solid foundation and became the basis that she built on.

The success that Michelle achieved at the Provincial and National level was shared within the Elmvale Skating Club and the surrounding area.  Michelle was always willing to help others and enjoyed assisting where possible.  She became, as was often stated, “Our Skating Sweetheart”.

Her athletic ability was matched by her academic achievements.  She was recognized as an “Ontario Scholar” and was voted by her classmates to be their Valedictorian in both grade eight and thirteen.  Although Michelle was often away from school practicing and competing a significant amount she remained very good friends with her classmates and was able to achieve academic honors.

While her successful skating career was cut short by a serious injury Michelle went on to give back to her passion through her coaching career.
